Understanding Human Trafficking

Learn the warning signs, how to report safely, and how HAVEN supports survivors.

Defining Human Trafficking

What is Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking happens when someone uses force, fraud, or coercion to exploit another person for labor or sex. Survivors may be isolated, threatened, or made to feel they have no choice.

Trafficking can occur in any community, regardless of age, gender, or background. It may look like control over someone’s work, housing, movement, or relationships rather than obvious captivity.

Exploitation is never the survivor’s fault. Freedom and safety are human rights.
